From the Farmer

This week I wanted to highlight some of the classes and opportunities coming up at the farm.  July is a great month for trying new things, especially around storing the produce that is in your shares.

Pesto Making is an annual event here at the farm. Many of you have been coming since we held the first event 10 years ago.  Here’s how it works. We supply the basil (but you have to pick it) and garlic. You bring your food processor, olive oil, cheese(if you like), salt and pepper, and nuts if you like. And together we spend the evening making pesto. It fun and relaxing and a great way to meet CSA members.  Space is limited so please contact Angelina in the farm stand to register. This event is FREE to CSA members. Wednesday July 12th at 7:00 PM.

Flower Arranging 101, Wednesday, July 19th at 7:00 PM. For those that have a Flower Share or just love picking flowers but, need a little advice in the flower arranging department. Joanna Hersey, a self-taught floral arranger, will teach you how to make that professional looking bouquet. Bring your buckets and clippers because you’ll be going out into the flower field to pick your own flowers. The cost of the class is $20 and an additional charge of $0.70 per stem for your flowers if you don’t have a Flower Share. Call the farm 508-376-5024 or talk to Angelina in the farm stand to register. Space is limited. Refreshments will be served.

Pickling and Canning 101- Wednesday, July 26 at 7:00 PM. Pickling and Canning are ancient arts but they have enduring popularity. Linda, our chef here at the farm, will show you the ins and outs of preserving your own food by pickling and canning. You’ll be able to see the process from start to finish so you can do it in your own home with confidence. We have given this class for several years and it’s always well received. The cost of the class is $10. Please register by calling the farm at 508-376-5024.

One last item:   Great news – Blueberry Picking has begun!

The blueberries are gorgeous and plentiful this year. There is a $5.00 admission fee/person to enter the field which is credited back to you when you check out. Blueberries are $4.25/lb.

That’s all for this week. We hope you had a great 4th of July and are enjoying your time each week at the farm.

See you this week,
