From the Farmer
I hope you all are enjoying your CSA experience. I know that here and there, you are receiving a few items in your share that you have never seen before. I hope you are up for the challenging of preparing them. Frankly, it how I’ve added many new items to our family’s meals over the years.
What’s new this week?
The blueberries are gorgeous this year and if you haven’t picked yet don’t wait much longer. Right now they are really sweet and plentiful but, we are usually done picking by the end of the month. Our big sunflower field is coming into bloom and it will be a perfect time to get some family photos.
What about the farm stand?
We finally have walls in the downstairs kitchen. That was a big deal. Now we can start getting the ventilation hood and the equipment in place.
Upstairs in the new building we have some of our displays in place, and the freezers and refrigerators will be ordered this week. When will it all be done? When it’s done…
Flowers, Flowers, Flowers
We had a great turnout for the Flower Arranging class and wanted to share a few photos. It really is a great year for flowers.
Our seasonal menu has changed to include a Blueberry Feta Salad and Chicken Salad Warp (Lilac Hedge Farm Chicken marinated in a Greek Dressing and kalamata olives. It’s served in a Greek-style gyro with Tzatzik sauce, tomatoes, cucumbers and feta.) And yes they are delicious and fresh. Thanks to our partners this month, Lilac Hedge Farm, Narragansett Creamery and Mi Nina Tortilla.
Good news: Corn, carrots and carry tomatoes are right around the corner!
We have a fabulous bunch of CSA members this year. Thanks for being part of it all.
