From the Farmer
I hope you enjoyed last week’s share. Bring a couple of bags this week because your share will be bountiful!
Late summer is the time of year when the difference in taste between our farm fresh produce and the grocery store produce is so apparent. Last week, Chronicle came to the farm to do a segment on farm stands. The interviewer asked the question, “Why would someone come to Tangerini’s instead of the grocery store when the grocery store is much more convenient?” It was really easy to answer that after I had spent a week gorging myself on our cantaloupes and watermelon. My answer was straightforward and from the heart. “When was the last time you bought a cantaloupe from the grocery store and said, ‘that’s the best cantaloupe I ever ate?’ Never!!!”
I went on to say that just last weekend we gave away samples of cantaloupe in the farm stand and pretty much everyone who tried it bought one. Whether its the melons or the tomatoes or those crunchy colored peppers that you’ll get this week, you can taste the difference in the produce offered at each distribution.
This is exactly why we started the Winter Share: so you don’t have to return to the grocery store for your vegetables and greens. We didn’t think it was fair to get you accustomed to all our wonderful farm produce during the Main Share and not continue it through the winter when we were more than capable of doing so. I highly recommend the winter/combo share. It’s not only delicious but, it’s a great value. You can sign-up by going to www.tangerinisfarm.com/make-a-purchase. If it’s too much for you, consider sharing it with another family.
Just in case you are interested, Chronicle is set to air our segment sometime during the second week of September. It was pretty emotional for me, especially when they asked me “What do your customers mean to you?” I understand that they take out sections when people are swearing or crying…… To set the record straight, I wasn’t swearing!
Thanks for all your support, you mean everything to us and I hope to see you around the farm this week!
