2018- Kids’ Classes

All classes have a 5-person minimum for the class to be held.
CSA members receive $5 off per class except for the Pesto Making class which is free to CSA members.

The Basics of Baking – During April vacation let your kids spend a day or all four days exploring baking at Tangerini’s Spring Street Farm. In each class we will focus on one specific aspect of baking. We will also be discussing how to properly read recipes, finding the right ingredients, using the proper measuring tools and kitchen equipment as well as some of the science of baking.

Tuesday – Here your pint-sized chef will learn all about quick breads and muffins.
Wednesday – We will delve into cookies with everything from chocolate chip to flourless peanut butter to healthy no bake energy bites.
Thursday – Brownies and blondies will show off their stuff while your kids learn all about the versatility of these hand-held delights.
Friday – We’ll take butter and flour to the next level when we bake up some scrumptious little hand pies.

Basics of Baking – Do your kids love to follow you around the kitchen? Let them join us as we go over the basics of baking. We will be discussing how to properly read recipes, finding the right ingredients, using the proper measuring tools and kitchen equipment as well as some of the science of baking. Your mini baker will get the chance to use their new skills to make granola bars, cookies and brownies.

Basics of Baking – This is the perfect class for your budding pastry chef! During this class we will have a quick review on reading recipes and how to use the proper measuring tools and kitchen equipment. We will then dive into cupcakes, frostings and all of the delightful things that come from flour, sugar and butter!
June 22 – 5:00 – 7:30

Jam time – Does your teen want to learn how to use a hot water bath canner? If so, this class is for them! We will go over the proper equipment, tools, safety and technique in using a hot water bath canner. Then they will have a chance to use what they’ve learned to make and can some fresh jam!

Freezer Jam – Summer is here and so are strawberries!! Through this class your child will learn the basics of making jam, the differences in pectin and how to make delicious jam at home in the freezer without using a hot water bath canner.

Frozen Treats – It’s getting hot outside and there’s no better way to cool down then with some homemade frozen treats! In this class your teen will learn how to make ice cream using two different techniques, frozen pudding pops and more!

Summer Snacking – The summer vegetables and fruits are rolling in! Through this class we will explore different ways of tying in fruits and vegetables to some super delicious easy snack foods.

Frozen Treats – Kids big and small (and adults too) should always have time for a popsicle break during the summer! In this class your child will learn how to make fresh fruit popsicles, pudding popsicles and a simple ice cream. The perfect way to cool off during the summer!

Cooking with Summer Vegetables – The summer’s bounty is upon us, and we’re going to show your teens how to use it to make some fabulously fresh food. After taking a quick tour of the fields, to see where all of these vegetables come from, we will go over a couple of different dry heat cooking techniques including grilling and roasting. Your teen will get a chance to make some easy summer snack food as well as a full meal using fresh produce straight from the fields.

Hand Pies & Bar Cookies – There aren’t too many things that are as portable and delicious as hand pies. We’ll show your teen how to make an all butter pie crust from scratch, roll it, cut it and fill it to make some tasty hand-held treats. They will learn how to make two different fillings and also get the chance to make some bar cookies too!

Getting Saucy – Kicking off a nice fall weekend with some homemade apple sauce and fruit butters is the perfect way to ring in fall. Your child will learn how to make apple sauce, pumpkin butter and apple butter and some fun ways to use them to give a boost of flavor to your foods!
