From the Farmer

Well we finally did it! We took advantage of the rainy weather last week and made the move into the new farm stand. We still have a number of displays to make and coolers to purchase but, it feels great! It is roomy, the light is great and the smell of the wood is heavenly.

From the inception of this project, we planned to stay true to our mission of supporting other local farm and artisans. We have been eager to add great quality products to the line-up, and we can now that we have the space.  To start, we have added a few bakery items this week including Kayak Cookie from Hyannis.  These cookies are handcrafted, subtly sweet and curiously salty. I’m not a big cookie eater but, I love these because they are full of flavor. We are also carrying a handcrafted mini whoopie pie that is made with butter cream frosting. The Whoopie is made in Newburyport and comes in a few different flavors including salted caramel, chocolate and lemon creme, yum! Pair those with some Jim’s Organic Coffee, also in the farm stand.

So this week please take a peek in the new farm stand and if you haven’t already, get yourself signed up for winter share. All the produce for the winter share is looking great so don’t miss out. If it’s too much food for your family, please feel free to share it with a friend. If you do share it, please make sure we have everyone’s email so we can keep you posted on what’s what at the farm.

Sweet potato harvest will begin this week and we’ll finish up on the potato harvest too. Carrots, beets, parsnips, turnips, broccoli and cabbage are all sizing up nicely. You may see cauliflower in the share this week. Cauliflower is one of the few crops that mature over a long period of time. Each time you go to pick, you are never sure how much you’ll be able to harvest. But, if we have it we’ll make sure it get put in the share.

Shell beans will be available for u-pick this week and boots are recommended. They are located on the other side of the moveable greenhouse right next to the green beans we had available for u-pick.

Many of you may know that Chronicle was here in late August to film a segment on farm stands. It will be airing this Thursday, September 28th on Channel 5 at 7:00p.m..
